Flannery Centre Progress
| After unprecedented delays from rain and issues with the previous builders, the end is finally in sight and the view looks great! |

| Our local builders are ahead of the finishing schedule, although some external earthworks are being held back by continuing wet weather. The Centre interior has taken shape, lighting is being installed, the flooring is going down, bathrooms are being tiled and painting is well underway. What has been really nice to hear is the positive feedback we’ve received from the local tradespeople working on the site. Being a solar passive design means that the building maintains a pretty constant temperature without the need for heating or cooling, and is light without the need for electricity. In most work sites, heaters, fans and spot-lights are a common requirement; our builders have been able to work comfortably throughout the project with none of these. The pride and ownership the builders and tradespeople have taken in the project has been admirable. Local suppliers are currently installing a 30kW Solar Photo Voltaic array which will come close to meeting the centre’s energy needs. We’re also hoping to install a small wind turbine. We haven’t let the typical delays associated with a building project inhibit our delivery of sustainability related training and products. We have successfully delivered sustainability training to Electrolux, Owner Builders, the Catholic Education Office and the Western Institute teacher training. In addition to this, we have also added Water Operation to our scope of training, and have since delivered the course to Councils in Quirindi and Goulbourn. In collaboration with Green Homes Australia, we have also launched the My Green Home Rating Tool, an on-line service aimed at helping people looking to build or renovate improve the design and efficiency of their home. This will also help people save money! Finally, we’re not the only ones excited about opening the Centre, we’ve received event bookings for the Flannery Centre already including several conferences and the training rooms are starting to book up too. So if you have a good idea for an event, course or service that helps our communities, contact us. We welcome positive people who, like us, hope to provide clarity about the issues that we face, help businesses to adopt sustainable practices and increase the well-being of the communities in which we operate. |
