Skillset turns 30

Skillset turns 30

Established on the 25th January 1982, Skillset committed itself to re-skilling the region.

In 1980, skills shortages were emerging as a result of the declining number of tradespeople being trained in Australia. In response to this shortage, Skillset was formed.

Today we celebrate 30 years of successful operation as one of the largest Group Training organisations in Australia.

When Skillset was first formed, Ron LeBrocque was the first staff member managing 22 apprentices. From small beginnings; we have since employed over 20,000 apprentices and trainees and established offices in Bathurst, Orange, Parkes, Dubbo Lithgow, Cowra and Mudgee.

The quality of our apprentices and trainees can be demonstrated by their achievements at WorldSkills competitions and other Award programs; winning over 100 regional medals, 30 national medals and Skillset having sponsored 8 of our apprentices in international competitions.

Like all successful organisations, we've moved with the times.

Establishing the registered training arm of the organisation in 1999, we've grown and diversified our training offering; today delivering programs to around 750 students annually.

We have also expanded our offering to include workforce development solutions and the development of a range of sustainability initiatives, including the construction of the Flannery Centre which aims to build the resilience of businesses and individuals to the global issues we face.

It is through Apprenticeships & Traineeships, Training, Workforce Development and Sustainability, we aim to inspire, lead and learn the way to a positive future.
